What is nutrition counseling?

Nutrition counseling involves collaborating with a registered dietitian to evaluate your typical nutrition habits and pinpoint necessary areas for modification. The dietitian offers guidance, educational resources, and encouragement to aid in implementing and sustaining healthier habits.

We specialize in the following areas:

  • adult weight management

  • bariatric surgery support

  • women’s health and fertility support

  • heart disease (high cholesterol)

  • diabetes and pre diabetes

What to Expect

  • During the first visit, we focus on your medical history, current health concerns, and individual goals. The dietitian will provide customized recommendations to suit your specific needs. The first visit lasts about 60 minutes.

You can expect to discuss or review the following topics:

    • current medical conditions and health concerns

    • recent lab work, medications and supplements

    • weight and diet history

    • eating habits and diet preferences

    • factors affecting food intake (i.e. constipation, bloating, heartburn)

    • lifestyle habits (i.e. sleep patterns, work routine, physical activities)

You will leave the visit with a clear set of goals to work on before your next visit. These tasks may include tracking what you eat, trying out new meal ideas, or reviewing educational materials given to you.

  • During a follow-up visit, you and the dietitian discuss the progress you’ve made towards achieving the goals that were set during the previous visit.

This session provides an opportunity to address any challenges you may have encountered and to celebrate your accomplishments so far. The dietitian will offer suggestions on adjustments to your plan for continued success. Follow-up visits last about 30-45 minutes.

Patients usually follow-up every 2 to 4 weeks to closely monitor progress and ensure consistent support. This may continue for a period of 2 to 3 months before transitioning to a visit every 4 to 6 weeks. The timing of visits can always be adjusted to your individual needs.

  • If you are self-pay or if your health insurance does not cover benefits for nutrition services, the following rate will be paid out-of-pocket:

    • Initial Visit: $200 per visit (60 minutes)

    • Follow-Up Visit: $80 per visit (30 minutes)

Any changes within 24-hours of your scheduled appointment time is subject to a fee. Please review our cancellation policy on our website or in the document section on the client portal.

All charges and fees for services are subject to Hawaii General Excise Tax of 4.712%
